  1. How are you going to bring big items home if you don’t have access to a car?

Both for walking and cargo bikes, the flat packed stuff is an uncomfortable shape. It will also be very difficult to load it into public transportation.

  2. Yes, that is right. Another “green” structure with mature 15-20′ trees growing in areas with no soil volume.

Put any plants on the structure and call it “ecological”!

  3. Vienna’s Modular Ikea Store is currently under construction.
I live in the neighborhood and see the building every day.
This photo was taken about a month ago.

  4. I can’t help but be critical of the greenwashing and lack of car access, as much as I like the look. I despise criticizing because I believe the culture is unnecessarily negative, but this is simply unacceptable. It looks fantastic, and the architecture seems to be straightforward and sensible, but it is, in my opinion, just a concept render.

  5. Without a car IKEA seems to be blasphemy. Their whole business model is based on automobile culture.

And, to be honest, I can’t think of a single current DIY chain that hasn’t had a massive parking lot.

  6. I can already tell how exhausting it would be to move from one end to the other if one floor is devoted solely to the showroom. To drive, either a travelator, an electric scooter, or an indoor cart should be introduced. This can also benefit the elderly and disabled.

  7. This is all well and good, but…

When it comes to Ikea’s negative environmental effects, almost no one mentions the footprint of their houses. For example, if you want to have an effect on the environment, how about stopping illegal deforestation for your goods in Romania?

Alternatively, “IKEA – greenwashing deforestation after 1943” may be your slogan.
